KÉSZ Group: Sustainability focus on employee wellbeing and youth training

KÉSZ Group published its sustainability report for the second time, in accordance with the GRI 2021 Standards. The report reveals the achievements of the Group in 2023 in the area of more sustainable operations.

In 2023, KÉSZ Group continued to pursue its sustainability goals set along the three pillars of ESG. The Group aims to achieve these goals by launching including new investment projects, programmes, and awareness-raising campaigns.

The construction-focused Group further increased renewable energy production capacity by installing solar panels and, from 2023, partially covering its electricity consumption with wind energy purchased from Greenergy Group. The KÉSZ Greentech division has launched its first solar-panel-covered parking lot at its Kecskemét headquarters, created with a focus on sustainability both in design and structure. The already structurally complete TILIA office building aims to achieve BREEAM Excellent, WELL Platinum, and Access4you Gold certifications, realised through KÉSZ Group's own development.

Last year, they conducted life cycle assessments for several self-manufactured construction products, and by 2024, certified Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) were completed. These important steps enable environmentally-conscious decision-making for designers and builders, promoting the development of a more sustainable construction industry.

In addition to environmental achievements, the sustainability report includes the Group's governance and social programmes and data, meeting the expectations of the most widely adopted international sustainability standard, GRI (GRI: Global Reporting Initiative). KÉSZ Group ran a successful health protection campaign, which included health screening programmes, well-being-focused lectures and workshops, and the organisation of an EHS Day.

“In the last challenging period, we continued along our well-defined, comprehensive ESG strategy. We continuously strived to develop our sustainable practices to meet the increasing expectations of stakeholders and regulatory requirements. Two key success factors in advancing our Group's ESG journey are embedding sustainability into our business strategy and strengthening leadership and employee commitment,” said Tamás Vida, CEO of KÉSZ Holding Zrt.

Pioneering role in youth training

The Group plays a pioneering role in sectoral youth development and vocational training, which is of outstanding importance for competitiveness in the sector. For the second year, the Company has been working on the strategic alignment of BIM methodological applications covering the entire construction industry value chain, aiming for full integration of BIM into KÉSZ Group's operations. In the area of compliance, the Group focused on prevention and renewed the Clean Hands whistleblowing system to comply with the Whistleblower Act. There have been no fatal or serious accidents among the KÉSZ Group's own employees and directly contracting subcontractors.

KÉSZ Group manages sustainability at a strategic level, and has accordingly developed a sustainability strategy for the 2022-2030 period that goes far beyond mandatory requirements and plans to achieve smart goals. Last year, the Group published its sustainability report for the first time, prepared in accordance with the GRI 2021 Standards for the year 2022. The range of companies participating in the report is gradually being expanded to be fully prepared for reporting in compliance with the requirements of the CSRD, the EU Taxonomy, and the national ESG Act by 2025.
